Mui Ho Architect

Mui Ho started her architectural office in 1979 after working in architectural offices in New Haven, Berkeley and San Francisco. Her practice has remained small to allow her to combine an architectural practice with teaching at the University of California, Berkeley.

Mui Ho taught 33 years in UC Berkeley from 1975 to retired at 2008. Her teaching of design rekindled her interest in vernacular architecture and led her to start her research in village design and houses in rural China. Her conviction that architecture, as a part of culture, must relate to its time, its place and its people. Mui Ho has been making yearly visits to China to continue her research starting the late seventies. With her research material she created a seminar in the Department of Architecture , Arch 279, Vernacular Architecture of China, which was offered every three years as part of the architectural history electives at UC Berkeley.
