Sichuan House
Sichuan - China
The availability of wood and bamboo in Sichuan had a definite influence on its rural housing stockes. Exterior walls of farm houses were often built of exposed wood boards on the lower portion and mud in filled with bamboo latch for the upper portion. Owing to the torrential rain in the summer months, eaves were very deep extended out well over 5 feet.
The exposed wood structure and infilled mud and latch wall is characteristic for this area..
The farm houses were arranged in an "U" shape with all the rooms facing the central courtyard which opens on to the rice field. For shades in the hot weather and for making daily utensils and toosk , bamboos were planted around the houses making the farm houses very idealic in appearance.
