Chinese Vernacular Architecture
Having collected data for over thirty years of continuing research and her documentation of vernacular architecture in different regions of China, Mui Ho demonstrated the diversity of building forms and types that existed in China beyond the celebrated courtyard houses in Beijing . This rich variety of vernacular architecture from the different regions shows how local beliefs and customs, including issues of gender, family and community, have exerted their imprint on the built environment.
The study of regional styles, environmental conditions and local building methods has enabled the understanding of the relationship between built structures and local social and cultural practices
