Administration
Peizheng College - China
2000
This four-story administration building was originally designed to house the large administration staff, as well as offices for professors when the student population was under five thousand. To meet the expectations of Peizheng College that the Administration Building be prominent on campus, I convinced the administration to build the building on top of the hill, rather than razing the hill, so it may be seen from afar.
The teachers offices inside the Administration Building are designed for 8 professors to share, 4 desks on each side of the wall - standard practice in China. To avoid uneven lighting in this long rectangular office, being very bright at the window end and very dark at the corridor end, natural lighting was introduced to the corridors from clerestory windows. And the wall between offices and corridor were glass windows to allow natural lighting spill into this end of the offices.
